The New Normal

Assistant Lighting Designer

The Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance

The New Normal was produced in November 2020 at the Wendy Kurka Rust Flexible Theater, a 200-seat black-box theater located in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The New Normal was a mainstage filmed and live-streamed collection of short plays with themes of isolation and adaption as a response to the Covid-19 pandemic. As assistant designer, I worked under the head designer, Hayley Simmonds, assisting with cue programming on an ETC Ion console and lighting paperwork, as well as camera work when needed. This was my first production at the Dobbins Conservatory, a couple of months after beginning my freshman year of college. Throughout this process, I expanded my knowledge of lighting design for film and began to get comfortable with the conservatory production process.
